Best Prototyping Tools Recommended for 4 Different Design Scenarios

图片
Prototyping is an effective approach to turn your ideas into a crowd-funding product, but it’s not easy to pick  the best prototyping tools  for your style, especially with all sorts of tools available on the current market. From my point of view, the foremost concern while choosing a prototyping tool is whether it fits perfectly into the design goals. In the following, I’ve made a list of prototyping tools recommended for 4 different design scenarios, with both free and premium tools included. Scenario 1 — Medium-to-Low Fidelity & Quick Mobile/Web App Generally, the medium-to-low fidelity refers to those prototypes with limited functionalities and interactions, applying to showcase the design ideas, scenarios and interface layouts as well. It helps a lot in the communication, presentation and report process. As far as I am concerned, the best tool for this scenario can showcase the entire flow of the app experience in a short period of time. Here I recommend two prot...

What Product Design Process Should You Consider When You Are Prototyping

图片
As a basic product design process, prototyping design often evokes various disputes. It is widely held that the first thing is to learn Axure while others complain that Axure is just one of the various prototyping tools which do not deserve being flattered. In my perspective, both of them are right. For new product managers, Axure may be the first  prototyping tool  they use in most cases. But whether Axure really suits their needs still remains obscure. The most common mistake is to believe that the skill of using Axure equals to the skill of a professional product manager. As a result, a lot of new product managers squanders too much time on the high-fidelity thing only to find the iteration of their product stranded. I’m not saying that there is no value in high-fidelity. To some extent, high fidelity helps the leader get a clearer logic of the whole iteration scheme. It is both valuable for development and demonstration. However, the tempo of modern design industry is...

Never a Rose without a Prick-Apple also Makes Some Design Mistakes!

图片
Apple is not perfect and also has some deficiencies in its design. Following are several design mistakes in  iOS app UI design  during its process of version updates. These contents only represent my personal view. Please feel free to discuss if there is any different opinion. 1. The notification centers of iOS7 and iOS8 follow first the inverted order of notification receiving time and second the order of app classification, greatly decreasing users’ efficiency of notification processing. In the notification centers of iOS9 and iOS10, the previous complex classification of the notifications (first the inverted order of notification receiving time and second the order of app classification) is changed to the integration of time as a whole, increasing the efficiency of notification processing. I guess everyone should have been tortured by this design mistake before using iOS9: click close buttons one by one to clear all the notifications. In this information-overlo...

Ineteraction Design Thinking Process before Getting to Prototyping

图片
Before I introduce the interaction design thinking process, I prefer to point out two common mistakes firstly that may lead your interaction design into a dead-end. 1.Design just by imitating I do not say that referring to good competing products is not right. As a reminder, I mean that if you begin to draw something on a  prototyping tool “just by”imitating existed products rather than something in your mind, you are in fact getting yourself hopelessly trapped in a negative thinking set. Maybe someone you know got successful in this way, but believe me, the possibility that things could go wrong is far more overwhelming than the chance that you are the one. 2. Never look before leap I often recall the time I became an interaction designer. I was young and full of creativity at that time. But as a senior designer, when I look back into the old days, I suddenly realize that something is not right. I had wasted too much time on the flow charts. It’s a natural weakness o...

Horizontal Scroll in App Design, Why Is It Worthy of Attention?

图片
With mobile screens getting bigger, users’ demand for more content also increases. How to present sufficient content on a limited screen? I guess this question has always bothered many UI/UX designers. Horizontal scroll in App design, in that case, has gained favor among most designers. Traditional design methods for extensible content includes list sliding of Y direction, 3D Touch of Z direction, portal content folding, etc. In this article, I am going to discuss the horizontal scroll in App design, which may first appear in the Horizontal sliding design of Windows Phone. In general, it’s used to extend content along the X axis on a single page. Nowadays, this  interaction design  is widely applied in various Apps. However, every cloud has a silver lining. Though Horizontal Scrolling Lists does present more content on one page, problems concerning good user experience also arise, such as poor visibility, priority chaos, and mixed content. Therefore, when applying this in...
